Yeah, Meh, or Bleah
I’ve decided on my new rating system for reviewing movies et al. Yes it’s broad but I figure I can cover any details necessary in the review itself. I hate stars and I hate numerical rankings because once you’ve rated, let’s say The Empire Strikes Back at a solid 4 stars or 9.5 out of 10, another film comes along like Taken and you’re stuck comparing it to the reasons you gave Empire a nearly perfect score. I don’t believe in perfects so you can begin to see the dilemma. I’m certain I’m not the only one ever burdened by this line of reasoning. I think it’s easier to just say see it or don’t. Something Old…
At the peak of my WoW addiction the guild I ran with was full of very creative fellows. I’m not sure when it began but someone wrote up one of our weekly encounters into a nice little prose narrative. Soon whenever there was a particularly memorable encounter someone from the guild would write it down. The humor doesn’t translate well outside of the guild, but I’m sure any player could commiserate with the experiences. With that in mind I felt I would share one of the pieces I wrote after one of our early attempts at a Strat run. I came across this while trying to figure out an easier way of bestowing the torture I call editing upon my dearest. Punctuation has always been my bane and she manages to coral my commas into a somewhat cohesive semblance. Though she’ll likely tell you there’s really no hope for me.

Cap Dance
I’m not opposed to change. Change can be good, but I’m becoming increasingly paranoid about just what-in-the-hell our government is doing. Not even a full year into his administration, Obama has caused more controversy over his policies than his predecessor managed in eight. Not that the executive branch is solely to blame. After almost ten years of Republican legislative majority, the Democrats seem to want to make up for lost time after their narrow margin of victory in 2007 with a glut of reform. Change for the sake of change. Health care has been the loudest debate and it’s doubtful that Roe vs. Wade polarized the country in a more dramatic division. Enough so that the White House asked all despot fearing citizens to report their neighbors for speaking out against Obama care. There is little doubt why no lasting bill has managed to make it’s way safely across the floor yet. Let’s forget the fact that regardless of what Washington wants you to believe, the money has to come from somewhere. There have been a number of ideas of how this is to happen but the bottom line is that inevitably this is going to lead to higher taxes. So ignore the fact that you, gentle reader, will be footing the bill for someone else getting sick; how do you feel about paying higher taxes to reimburse the rest of the world for ‘causing’ global warming?

Now with Flair!
I have been quiet for longer than I would have liked, but hopefully you will see the effort I have put into updating the blog. There was a certain lack of imagery that I have tried to correct going back and updating past posts with images to give it that special touch. I’m pleased with how things are looking. more importantly I have been working a lot on the back end. Most of these changes have no direct effect on the readers but there is one specific add-on I hope will make things a little more comfortable for readers to comment. I have initiated Open ID login so there should be one less password and user name for you to have to remember. If you’re not familiar with Open ID take a little time to familiarize yourself. It’s good! I’ve been using it myself after I created my chi.mp account a few years ago.

Off the Wagon
I have spent the better part of two weeks in the throes of some megaflu. It only sounds dire. Basically just a low grade fever, and nausea from all the garbage in my sinuses systematically relocating to my stomach. Woo Fun! I picked up the GOTY edition of Left 4 Dead last week while Steam was floating it for $15. I’m not normally a big fan of zombie games, I get squeamish over the Resident Evil flicks, but I spent so much time focusing on tactics that I didn’t really pay attention too much to the graphics. If it shambled in any form, it was something to shoot.
