Definition Unnecessary

I cannot get this song out of my head nor can I stop watching Alessandra Torressani. She more than makes up for the singing. Maybe not so safe for the younglings…

New Shiny

A big thank you to Twisted Wire Artisans for my new wrist couture! The rings are made from square copper wire, when round wire just isn’t enough.

Woven Copper Bracelet

Forgive me if the picture just doesn’t do the piece justice.

The Boy Who Didn’t

Let me start by saying that this is not really a book review but more a review of the sensationalism that has followed this series. From movies to merchandising, the Harry Potter franchise has made enough money to nearly unseat Star Wars from its throne. Something has nettled me beyond the fanboy rivalry of my inner nerd. To say that I have harbored a mild amount of animosity against J. K. Rowling would be a mild understatement. My reaction to her Carnegie Hall announcement might have been a little unfair, but at first I had only seen the quote out of context. I still remained a little miffed, not because of the statement itself, but rather the aftermath. I don’t consider myself a homophobe, but I am biased. For those that will so passionately defend Rowling, was the revelation of Dumbledore’s sexuality so necessary to the story? Obviously she would have included it to begin with were this the case. So there’s really the crux of this whole issue. It doesn’t really matter, or rather it shouldn’t. Read the rest of this entry »

Ad Nauseum

Look- I know this is going to sound like the same song and dance, but I can’t help but hear another nail in the coffin. Today Apple held their Back to the Mac event where we learned that they spared a little time to update iLife and OS X. Fine, that’s unfair. The demo was fairly impressive on both accounts. iMovie is turning into Final Cut lite with each iteration, and that’s a good thing. I still can’t figure out why someone hasn’t managed to arrive at something at least close to iMovie on the Windows side of the pasture. Between that and iDVD, iPhoto, and Garageband, there’s really just no competing with the iLife suite. It’s almost worth owning a Mac just for those applications alone. Microsoft has really tried with Windows Live, but it just seems to pale in comparison. Apple, of course, has a long-standing history with the creative community, and perhaps the iLife suite owes much to this influence. Read the rest of this entry »
