I was reading through an article on lifehacker.com the other day which really got me thinking again about my goals. My updates have been sporadic at best and I have always convinced myself that it was because I didn’t know what to write about. I have actually started a couple of pieces between now and my last post but either discarded them or left them collecting dust in draft purgatory. The afore mentioned article has given me a better outlook on what I should be doing. I have often discarded writing that I thought was irrelevant or just plain bad, but I have come to the realization that most of what I write WILL be bad. There’s just no way around it. Instead I will now try and take some sadistic pleasure in exposing my audience to what amounts to literary offal. Excited aren’t you?
In order to steel myself against an ever growing sense of insecurity I have been looking at ways to improve the blog. Initially I had considered divorcing myself of the need to maintain the site and simply move to Tumblr. After a little digging though I realized the amount of work it would take to move everything over since there is no conversion tool. Also WordPress had some new features rolled out in the 3.1 update that I
completely neglected to consider. Right now I’m trying to figure out best how to incorporate a more Tumblr style post format into the fusion theme I use. I think development has stopped on this theme though it really works for me, so I will need to do some code changes. I’m not really thrilled about the idea of having to maintain yet another piece but it will help keep me from getting too rusty. I’ve also made some less noticeable changes
There’s always room for improvement and I’m doing to try to do both, we’ll just see how it goes!to the way I’m going to handle the social media aspect. I’ve decided to put more emphasis sharing through the Nerdtopia Facebook page. It will still post to twitter but I like the way that Facebook posts shares better. You can also see that I changed the twitter account too. I’m not sure that this was the greatest of my ideas but if nothing else this is an evolving experiment to see what works best for me. I have experimented a little with Google Plus but for now I have my hands full with Twitter and Facebook.
